For the second year in a row, a development space for older adults “Preserving Experience and Opening New Horizons” has been operating in the Kushuhum municipality in the Zaporizhzhia region. It is a place that allows the senior generation not only to spend their time in an engaging way but also to benefit from meaningful activities. The project became possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Development Agency of the Kushuhum Settlement Council and U-LEAD.
The Kushuhum Settlement municipality in the Zaporizhzhia region is located 15 kilometers from the front line. It includes the settlements of Balabyne, Kushuhum, and Malokaterynivka, which regularly suffer from shelling. Stress and tension particularly affect seniors who remain in these areas. To improve their emotional well-being, the municipality decided to engage seniors in creative and educational activities. The impulse for the project came from the members of the already existing local ensemble “Lebidonka”, which brings together older adults.
“This ensemble has existed for 15 years, and during my time in office I have heard a lot about their needs. Hearing that the ensemble members wanted to get the hang of modern smartphones, we felt inspired to give them that opportunity. I went to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Office of U-LEAD with Europe and proposed that we create a development space for the elderly,” says Volodymyr Sosunovskyi, Head of the Kushuhum territorial municipality.
