U-LEAD with Europe is honored to invite you to join our practical discussion on "Building sustainable municipalities". Let's rebuild Ukraine and make it prosperous — together!

We are pleased to announce a large-scale exchange dedicated to the restoration and development of Ukraine, which will take place on March 8, 2024.

This event will be a place to discuss the role of Ukraine, in general, and its municipalities, in particular, in the process of rebuilding the country, intensifying international support and to create institutionally and socially sustainable communities.

The main objective

The Practical Exchange will serve as a platform for sharing experience and good practices in decentralisation, regional development, and local recovery projects. The event aims to inspire public officials, civil society and private sector actors to perceive recovery as an opportunity to "build back better", cultivating a sustainable, resilient and inclusive Ukraine.

For whom

The event gathers representatives of international donors, the Ukrainian government, local leaders, practitioners, experts and civil society activists. It is aimed at everyone who is interested in the reconstruction and sustainable development of Ukraine.

Agenda

The event will take place in a hybrid format, which will allow participants from all over the world to join the exchange. It includes panel discussions and sharing experience in the development and implementation of local projects for recovery and infrastructure development.

Special attention will be paid to the importance of coordination between different levels of government and the involvement of international expertise in the reconstruction process.

How to participate

Interested individuals, organizations and media representatives are invited to participate in the event which aims not only to highlight current successes and challenges in the reconstruction of Ukraine, but also to contribute to the development of long-term strategies for creating sustainable and prosperous municipalities.

Registration is required to participate in the event.

Cooperating with Europe: how Bobrovytsia municipality is breathing new life into Katerynych Palace

When the municipality of Bobrovytsia first heard about the EU’s Interreg Europe programme, it seemed like something distant and unattainable. However, the training provided by U-LEAD with Europe changed that perception. The municipality decided that, rather than standing on the sidelines, they should try putting forward their own idea for an international partnership. This marked the beginning of Bobrovytsia municipality’s collaboration with European partners on the restoration of Katerynych family palace, an architectural landmark dating back to the late 19th century.

Two local self-government bodies - one agency. How Shakhtarske and Petropavlivka municipalities set up a joint enterprise

Joining efforts is about compromising, about strengthening one’s own capabilities. Following their participation in a training programme on setting up municipal enterprises, supported by U-LEAD with Europe, Shakhtarske (later renamed to Pershotravensk) and Petropavlivka municipalities established a joint municipal enterprise, the Agency for Development and Recovery of Prysamaria.

Memoranda on the reconstruction of schools damaged by the war were concluded

Charitable organization “Charity Foundation “Brave” signed memoranda with six municipalities of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions on reconstructing schools that suffered from full-scale Russian invasion in 2022-2023. The Beryslav municipality will create an enterprise for the production of fuel briquettes from straw to supply heating to a kindergarten. They will also implement an energy management system and scale up the experience of using biofuel to other municipal institutions and households in the region.

12 schools will be restored in three regions of Ukraine with the support of U-LEAD

As part of the U-LEAD’s initiative “Local School Rehabilitation for Resilience”, 12 war-affected municipalities in Chernihiv, Kyiv and Kharkiv regions will receive funding for the restoration of local school systems from the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) of the European Commission.

Development of Municipal Energy Plans: U-LEAD announces open call for the support programme.

From November 2024, the MEP will become a mandatory municipal document. U-LEAD offers support and expert guidance to municipalities selected in an open competition to develop this Plan. Municipalities will begin the development in June and present their MEPs at the national level in October.
